If you are interested in receiving a minimalist list of news summaries as a break from getting your news with often unhelpful network flavor, Wikipedia has a Current Events portal you may have forgotten about.

The news items are heavily cross linked to supporting background information in the Wikipedia style.

(By supporting information I don’t mean commentary but rather info on names, dates, history, geography, etc.)

There is also a version of the portal created by a third party which reformats the info for increased legibility.

The more legible version does not have the pop-up link previews that the Wikipedia page has, but you may prefer the readability.

Also, if you have issues with Wikipedia, well… that’s nice.
