I just finished reading John McPhee’s Rising From the Plains which is the third book in his series Annals of the Former World. Rising From the Plains tells the geological story of the area we know as Wyoming and the human story of people who embraced its unforgiving landscape.
As I move closer to the end of the dizzyingly quick years allotted for a lifetime on this planet, it is comforting to let McPhee’s exquisite storytelling place that lifetime in a context comprised of millions and millions of years of slowness.
